When I was deciding what The Fin would be (or more precisely, where it would start) I met tons of different people in the internet and marketing world and all were very enthusiastic about the project except for one. His advice to me was that I should narrow my focus to one particular species or type of fishing because "fishermen" consider themselves either a bass fisherman, a fly fisherman, a trout fisherman, etc. That was the first time anyone had ever put it that way to me. Being that this guy was/is very influential in the internet world it made me think. As you probably know if you read this blog or follow me on Twitter or on The Fin I'm pretty hard core about my fishing and while I mostly fish for striped bass I don't consider myself just a striped bass fisherman. I'm a fisherman and I'll fish for whatever is available wherever I happen to be. But, just to satisfy my curiosity, I did a little informal polling and found out I was not alone. Here are some of the answers I got when asked: "do you consider yourself a fisherman or a bass fisherman, trout fisherman, shark fisherman etc when someone asks?"
-Fisherman
-Angler extraordinaire
-Fisherman. I don't target a particular species
-I am an angler who targets many species with much to learn
-Fisherperson would be the P.C. term
-Fisherman, targeting what's running. It changes all year long
-his question is tough if there are bass around i will target exclusively if they are not i will put a beat down on anything else that swims so i guess fisherman
Etc, etc, etc
I meet and converse with fishermen from all over the world and no matter what, because we fish we always have something to talk about.

Fsherman
I have as much fun catching bluegills on 4 lbs test as 38" bass on a 10ft surf rod
