These days, references to fishing seem to be everywhere. When I'm looking for things to write about I can't find them but when I'm not they seem to fall into my lap. So today while drinking an espresso at 9th Street Espresso (the best coffee in NYC...I've tried them all) I came across an interesting article in the New York Times.
This time of year we are bombarded with articles of ice fishing that are nothing more than a few guys sitting around a hole in the ice waiting for something to happen. Now for something completely different, meet Mike Holmes, an ice spear fisherman from Crystal Falls Michigan. Until reading this article I had no idea that people went ice fishing with a spear. Using a cedar decoy made to look like a whitefish he lures the pike to his 3' x 6' hoke and then, wham spears the fish. You can read the entire article (with great pictures) here at NYT.com

That's a great photo.
I'm an artist and am always looking for good shots like that one to inspire me.
