In a recent email exchange with Brad Burns, the president of Stripers Forever he points out"
"I think when it comes to bass that you have all that there are in the northeast. I know that you know this, stripers will congregate where the bait is, and a bunch of fish at Montauk by itself doesn't mean the whole population is doing well. New England has had a disastrous fall."
For those of us fortunate enough to fish in a place like Montauk where you can practically walk across the fish this time of year it is important to keep things in perspective. As Brad points out, just because you have fish does not mean all is OK with the striped bass population.

Ask me how the striper fishing is on the Western Sound. Better yet, don't.
