New Weakfish regulations for New Jersey

Weakfish1_13_3Ken Moran from the New York Post mentioned in his column this morning that the NJ DEP announced changes in the weakfish regulations ..."Effective immediately, the possession limit will be reduced from the current eight fish to six fish, while the size limit will remain at 13 inches. The change also establishes a coastwide commercial landings limit of approximately 3.7 million pounds."
I for one have not even seen a weakfish in 2 years.  I used to catch them all the time on the sand beached of Long Island.  Lets hope this helps the fish make a comeback.

Biguns_2 From your friends at fishingtapes.com, here is a real winner!  " this video has as many fishing tips as it has fantasy diversions."  Who makes this stuff up????

Once out on the lake, the girls decide to get naked, arousing not just the fish! Our hero Razzy starts thinking more about Fish’n WITH the big’uns than fishing FOR the big’un!

Shimano Sustain SA4000FD returned home - Smith Sunglass are still a no show!

Sa4000fd250 I'm happy to report that the Shimano Sustain I returned for repair has been returned and apparently was covered under warranty so there was no charge. It took roughly 2 weeks which is totally acceptable.  A great reel and great experience with Shimano Customer service.

The only piece of gear that I have not received back yet is my Smith Optics "Passage" sunglasses.  I called into their customer service today to find out that they are going to replace the glasses but they were out of stock.  They did not give a specific date, just February.  Hmmmmmm.  We will see.

Tibor Riptide is back!

Tibor_riptide More on my customer service series:

I just received my Riptide back from Tibor.  According to the return slip they received the reel on 1/14 and returned it on 1/16.  That's pretty darn good!  The reel feels as smooth as ever too.  This service was not covered by warranty so there was a $25 charge.  Considering I have had this reel for a LONG time I'd say it's well worth it.  Tibor is a great company and IMHO makes the BEST fly reels around. Thanks Tibor!

Patagonia Customer Service - Awesome!

Logo_2

I recently returned a jacket (M's Rain Shadow Jacket) to Patagonia because I had 3 zippers break off.  I absolutely love this jacket because it's so versatile....I wear it year round.  I have never returned a jacket to Patagonia or anywhere but figured if 3 zippers fell off it must be faulty.  Within 6 days I had a call from Diana 84470_856at Patagonia customer service letting me know that they were going to send me a new jacket.  (different color but that's OK).   That's great customer service and I will continue to be a loyal customer because of it!

I sent the jacket to Patagonia on January 15th.   It only took them 6 days to process!

I sent these other products back on January 10 and still have nothing returned yet..... Hmmmmmmm.

Shimano Sustain 4000Smith "Passage" Sunglasses

Thanks Patagonia for living up to your reputation.

Febreze Air Freshener - Striped bass

P1020322I noticed this commercial on TV last night and since they highlight a striped bass I thought I'd share it here.  The folks at Glade are clearly not fishermen or they would not have used a striped bass.  (It comes in at 17 seconds but is hard to see so i have included a still frame from the video)

Don't throw away that lure...it may make you rich!

Antique_fishing_luresI recently received an article from Barron's via snail mail which was all about the high prices of vintage fishing gear.  Some of the highlights included:

-The first patented American fly reel sold for $40,320.
-A fighting chair, (part of a collection of artifacts once owned by enthusiast Zane Grey. ) went for $24,640
-A finely detailed, pre-Civil War lure commanded $32,250.
-And a trout reel sold for $10,080 -- perhaps because of its connection to a bygone fishing store near Wall Street.

So I guess this gives you all an excuse to hold onto all that old gear floating around the trunk of your beach buggy!
