I always carry metal lips but now I will use them!
I just finished Zeno Hromin's book, The Art of Surfcasting with Lures. I'm an avid reader of all types of fishing books but have not read many specifically on surfcasting (which is odd considering that's basically the only type I do). The Art of Surfcasting with Lures is a book that anyone serious about hitting the surf in Montauk should read. I for one, think it will have a big effect on how I fish, specifically how I think about what's going on at the other end of my line. The information is presented in a straight forward way with just the right amount of personality to keep it interesting. It's clear that besides being obsessed with surf fishing that Zeno is a relentless student of the sport too. The knowledge he puts forth in his book would take some people a lifetime to figure out, if ever. Many fishermen, rely on reports, what worked yesterday, what the guy next to him is using, etc, instead of taking a moment to try and figure it out for themselves. Not unlike golf, fishing is a sport that you can never perfect but there are many things that you can do to better your odds. After reading The Art of Surfcasting with Lures by Zeno Hromin you will certainly be better equipped to tackle the surf and well on your way to more and bigger fish. Note: For the fly fishermen out there (I split my time between both) there is great info here about reading the surf, where the fish feed, etc.
