Managing your time during a fishing tournament can be the key to success. I am relatively new to fishing tournaments, in fact I fished in my first one last year. The tournament began at noon on a Friday and went straight through until Sunday at noon. (There are some like the Martha's Vineyard Striped Bass and Bluefish Derby that last for an entire month.) I was so excited about having an entire weekend of just fishing that I figured I would fish 48 hours straight. Bad idea. I think I ended up going about 12 hours and was so exhausted that I blew the entire next day. What should you do? Plan ahead where and when you want to fish based on tides, time of day, and weather. On my home waters there are certain places known to produce big fish on certain tides. For this years tournament I have already identified the tides and locations I intend to fish. (This is of course depends on ideal weather conditions).
