The 19th annual Big Bend Saltwater Classic (June 15-17), one of the biggest saltwater tournaments in the panhandle, has something nice for the troops this year. It's providing a couple of days of saltwater tournament fishing to 25 soldiers on leave from Ft. Stewart, Ga., before they deploy to Iraq.
The soldiers fish free, and are eligible for all the regular prizes. However, they must buy a three-day Saltwater Fishing license ($6 bucks and change) and pay the nominal special fees out of their own pockets (unless someone wants to do it for them ... hint, hint). MORE
I always love to see fishermen helping other fishermen (or anyone for that matter). A great day fishing can provide a life long memory...Hats off to the organizers of this event. It sounds like they are a few boats short so spread the word and get these guys fishing!
